Now that we have a working knowledge of all 3 principles that make up the Fundamental Formula, the next step is to break down postures into 2 categories. These categories are open hip and squared hip. Placing them into these categories allows one to work with postures that are aligned anatomically and energetically and supplies the base from which we create mini sequences that are then used to create all types of classes and all formats of rotation on the mat. In this workshop, we will be focusing solely on linear format. Modules 3 through 7 will take these same categories and utilize them in mandala patterns.
To gain a feel for working from different points on front and back, and how to work off the top of the mat, practice them in Foundations Class 2. (Note: the written version of Foundations Class 2 is included in the Module 3 Principle 1 Written Classes download.)
To gain an understanding of working along a horizontal path and a vertical path, using the insides of the mandala, and how to utilize horizontal and vertical paths to create a sphere around the body, view the following video.
With an understanding of Open Hip and Squared Hip postures, we are now ready to begin the dynamics of sequencing. To address both the anatomical and energetic aspects of sequencing, we will begin this journey with breaking down what is symmetry and what is balance in relation to the asanas and the overall practice.
To experience and gain a feel for this new understanding, practice it in Vinyasa Flow Class 10 below. (Note: the written version of this class is included in the Module 3 - Principle 2 Written Classes download.)
Class Description: Experience healing patterns of movement in this soft yummy morning flow. Melody will gently guide you around the mat in patterns that soothe and strengthen the subtle body and wake up the physical. This series shares a full rotational mandala.
